Animal health precautions

1. Core elements of animal health
1. Daily health monitoring itemsNormal standardAbnormal warningBody temperatureDog: 38-39℃; Cat: 38-39.5℃ >40℃ or <37.5℃ (seek medical attention immediately)
Heartbeat: 70-160 beats/min for dogs; 140-220 beats/min for cats. Continuously too fast/too slow, irregular heartbeat. Respiratory rate ≤30 beats/min at rest. Panting, abnormal breathing sounds. Gum color is pink, blood returns within 1 second after pressing. Pale/purple/yellow (critical!)
2. Regular health check-up for young pets: once a month (during vaccination period)

Adults: Full body checkup once a year (including blood test and X-ray)

Elderly (over 7 years old): once every six months (focus on checking the heart, kidneys and joints)

II. Key measures for disease prevention
1. Vaccine protection Core vaccination time effect Canine distemper/parvovirus Puppies 6-8 weeks old, 1 shot every 3-4 weeks to 16 weeks to prevent fatal virus infection Cat triple kittens 8 weeks old, 2-3 shots at intervals of 3-4 weeks to prevent cat plague/rhinotracheitis/calicivirus rabies 12 weeks old and above, 1-3 years to strengthen legal enforcement, zoonotic
2. External parasite control: Monthly drops (flea/tick) → Recommended brands: Frontline, NexGard

in vivo:

Heartworm: Monthly oral medication (a must in humid areas!)

Intestinal parasites: Deworm every 3 months

Environmental disinfection: Clean the pet bed regularly with 60℃ hot water

3. Nutrition and health management
1. List of dietary taboos ❌ Deadly foods: chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions, xylitol (gum), alcohol ❌ High-risk snacks: chicken bones (easy to pierce the intestines), raw eggs (Salmonella), high-salt ham

2. Nutritional requirements by stage Key nutritional recommendations for each stage High protein + calcium and phosphorus for young pets (bone development) Special food for young pets + goat milk powder Balanced fiber + probiotics for adults (gastrointestinal health) Main food with meat content > 30% Low phosphorus + joint health (such as glucosamine) for the elderly Prescription food + fish oil (anti-inflammatory)
Feeding formula: Daily calories = resting energy requirement (RER) × activity factor
RER = 70 × body weight (kg) <sup>0.75</sup>
(Example: 5kg adult dog about 300-400kcal per day)

IV. Emergency Response Guide
1. A home first aid kit must include hemostatic powder, sterile gauze, and a pet thermometer

3% hydrogen peroxide (for inducing vomiting, only used under the guidance of a veterinarian)

Emergency veterinary telephone number (posted on refrigerator door)

2. Identification and response to critical illness Symptoms Possible causes Act immediately Convulsions Drooling Poisoning/epilepsy Remove surrounding dangerous objects and record symptoms Difficulty breathing Purple gums Cardiopulmonary failure/heatstroke Wipe armpits with cold water and seek medical attention immediately Vomiting blood/coffee grounds Internal bleeding/pancreatitis Do not eat or drink, and lie flat for transportation
